For years, people across the U.S. have been using their talents to design and build functional houses for their four-legged friends. The Central Iowa Tobacco-free Partnership (CITP) is doing this as a project called MuttMansions to raise awareness about the importance of smoke-free living by spotlighting the original smoke-free home, a doghouse. Through a campaign entitled ‘Truthful Tails’ , CITP is educating animal enthusiasts and professionals about the dangers of tobacco products and secondhand smoke to animals.
The Central Iowa Tobacco-free Partnership is partnering with the Great Iowa Pet Expo to bring MuttMansions: A Celebration of the Original Smoke-free Home to Central Iowa. Doghouses will be designed and built by local organizations and individuals who have joined in this celebration in order to display their creative skills to a wide audience and help raise funds for a local charity, The Pet Project Midwest. The doghouses will be placed on public display around Central Iowa and at the Great Iowa Pet Expo, October 16-17, 2010, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Event attendees will have a chance to vote for their fan favorite and all houses will be auctioned off.

The Pet Project Midwest (TPPM) works to help people keep the pets they love. A new charity in 2010, the group runs The Pet Pantry which provides food and supplies to the unemployed, disabled, senior citizens and others encountering a rough patch so they do not have to give up a family member. TPPM also runs Iowa Pet Alert which uses Facebook, Twitter, email and text messaging to spread the word about lost and found animals so they get home soon. This group believes families should stay together, including the furry, finned or feathered members! |
